The Role of Media and Narratives in the Policy Process: Narrative Policy Framework Perspective
Tchaou, Dominica ; Novotný, Vilém (advisor) ; Čampulková, Jitka (referee)
The public policy scholarship says that media interract with the policy process in multiple ways. First of all, they offer various policy preferences. At the same time, they attach meanings to different policy events. This matters when it comes to the audience and its perception of chosen public issues. The media might also become an active participant in the policy debate and transmit their policy beliefs and policy preferences within this debate. The Narrative Policy framework brings these findings together with focus on the important role of policy narratives in the policy process. This master's thesis focuses on the case of family policy measurement adaptation in the Czech republic. The focus lies particularly on the government bill that has increased the parental allowance in 2019. This change has provoked a significant interest of the public and of the media, which were making their statements. The aim of this paper is to explore the form and content of the policy narrative and to say whether the media accounts have actively participated in the policy debates to possibly influence the policy outcome.
The issue of blood donation from the perspective of doctors and the general public
Cicák, Filip ; Kordulová, Pavla (advisor) ; Kulhavá, Miluše (referee)
Introduction: The properties of human blood are so specific that it has not yet been possible to replace human blood with any other fluid than obtaining it as a blood gift from donors. In recent years, there has not been a sufficient number of new blood donors in the Czech Republic to compensate for the decrease in the number of donors due to the increasing incidence of a number of civilization diseases and age (Czech Red Cross, 2020). Blood donation and the need for blood products are constantly increasing with the development of the methods of treatment and medicine as a science. Ensuring a sufficient number of blood donors and sufficient deposition of blood obtained from donors is a permanent task of healthcare (Society for Transfusion Medicine of the Czech Medical Association JEP, 2019). Aim of the work: The main goal of the research was to map the issue of blood donation, to identify the factors by which blood donors are motivated to donate. Furthermore, what can cause stagnation in the growth of blood donors and what means doctors motivate potential blood donors. Methodology: A qualitative research method was chosen for the research survey. Data collection took place in the form of semi-structured interviews and was completed by achieving theoretical data saturation. In order to preserve...

Kozlovská, Tereza ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
This diploma thesis called "Medialization of problematic periods in the life of well-known athletes and their reflection on these periods" examines media coverage of selected athletes in the Czech environment with the method of qualitative analysis used on stories from two printed nationwide newspapers and their online versions. The research is supported by e-interviews with the athletes that provide their view on their portrayal. The aim of this thesis is to provide a deeper insight into the issue and to find out how problematic periods of athletes' careers are presented and how these athletes reflect on it. Research showed that throughout their problematic times, the media had been portraying selected athletes in both positive and negative ways, although their image was constantly filled with superlatives reflecting their achievements. Portrayals of problematic periods were congruent across selected media, which athletes themselves confirmed. At the end of the defined periods, or in later time, all selected athletes regained their media status of a hero or even a national hero. Interestingly, athletes did not care much about their public image, moreover, they often tried to completely free themselves from any influence of the media avoiding any possible negative repercussions. In addition, the...
